Cricket Kenya has clarified that the ongoing CK-T20 League is a domestic tournament and does not require clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In a statement on Saturday, acting treasurer and county representative Kennedy Obuya said the competition was fully compliant with ICC rules on local tournaments, dismissing contrary claims as misleading.

“The CK-T20 League remains steadfastly on course, proceeding in accordance with the regulations governing domestic cricket tournaments as stipulated by the International Cricket Council (ICC),” Obuya said.

He also disowned pronouncements by former officials, stressing they had no mandate to speak for the federation.

“The former CEO Ronald and former nominated board members are not authorised to issue statements on behalf of Cricket Kenya. Their actions and declarations do not reflect the official position of Cricket Kenya,” he added.

Obuya criticised repeated references to the ICC in relation to the league, saying they were disruptive and unnecessary.

“The repeated references to the ICC in the context of this domestic tournament appear unnecessary and, in our view, may be an attempt to introduce unwarranted delays and complexity into the proceedings,” he said.

He assured players and fans that the CK-T20 League would proceed without disruption.

“We affirm our commitment to conducting the CK-T20 League with transparency and adherence to established domestic cricket norms,” Obuya stated.
