The Parliament of Kenya’s ladies’ basketball team, captained by Taita Taveta Woman Representative Lydia Haika, put up a spirited fight in their opening match of the EAC-Inter Parliamentary Games Tournament, losing narrowly to hosts Uganda.
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo drove Kenya’s offence with pace and confidence, while Senator Veronica Maina anchored the defence throughout the tense encounter.
Despite their grit and teamwork, Kenya were edged out by the Ugandan side.
The Kenyan team was energised by loud support from fellow legislators led by Parliamentary Service Commissioners Mohammed Ali (Nyali MP) and Racheal Ameso.
Senator Hamida Kibwana, MPs Rael Kasiwayi, Linet Chepkorir ‘Toto’, Irene Mayaka, Zamzam Mohammed and Esther Passaris also featured for Kenya in the match.
Uganda won 40-20.
