Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was on Wednesday arraigned at Kibera on charges of giving false information to the police, after a widely‑reported incident that saw him hospitalised and questioned by authorities.

Tuju’s case stems from events on 21st March 2026 at Entim Sidai Spa Wellness Sanctuary in Lang’ata Sub‑County.

That morning, he reported to police that he had been trailed and later abducted by unknown assailants. He was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident before officers took a recorded statement.

However, prosecutors allege that Tuju’s account was false and deliberately intended to mislead law enforcement.

They say his report prompted official action, diverting police resources on a claim that was untrue.

At Kibera Law Courts, Tuju appeared before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 129(a) of the Penal Code — an offence that prohibits knowingly providing false information to a public officer.

The charge was preferred by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and the case is being conducted by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Maryanne Mwangi and Principal Prosecution Counsel Micheal Mutune.

Court heard that Tuju was arrested shortly after his hospital visit when detectives found inconsistencies in his statements during follow‑up inquiries.

He was cautioned and taken into custody before his arraignment on Wednesday (today).

The matter is now set for mention on 15th April 2026 for directions on how the prosecution and defence will proceed.
