The Returning Officer for the Mumbuni North Ward by-election, Alice Kamau, has declared that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is fully prepared for Thursday’s poll.
Speaking to journalists outside the tallying centre at Mumbuni Girls High School after overseeing the opening of the pallet containing ballot papers, Ms Kamau said all non-strategic and strategic materials were already in place.
“We are very ready for the by-election as a commission,” she stated.
The ward has 25 polling stations and 13,778 registered voters.
Polling will run from 6am to 5pm, with anyone still in the queue at closing time allowed to vote.
Ms Kamau noted that the campaign period--which ended on Monday--had remained peaceful and called on residents to turn out in large numbers to elect their preferred candidate.
She dismissed allegations of voter bribery as “pure rumours,” pointing out that no official complaint had been lodged with her office.
However, the Returning Officer warned voters against handing over their national identity cards (IDs) to anyone, saying doing so could prevent them from casting their ballots.
