Youths in Mumbuni North Ward, Machakos County, have thrown their weight behind Wiper candidate Antony Kisoi, in what is shaping up to be a closely contested by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.

During the official launch of Mr Kisoi’s campaign at Kisooni grounds, which was led by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, several university students said the youthful aspirant is someone who understands their struggles and would champion job creation and empowerment programmes.

“Mr Kisoi is one of us and will connect the youths with opportunities in county government,” said Mr Kennedy Mutuku, one of the speakers at the rally.

Former area MCA’s son Saul Kavuu also announced he had dropped his own bid to support Mr Kisoi, urging young voters to back the Wiper candidate as a show of unity under the party.

Governor Ndeti described Mr Kisoi as a compassionate leader who had supported orphans and vulnerable children even before seeking office.

“He reminds us of Kisoi Munyao, the man who raised the Kenyan flag on Mount Kenya at independence,” Ms Ndeti said.

Mr Kisoi, who grew up in a humble background, credited his success to education and faith.

“I am here because of education and the grace of God,” he said.

The Mumbuni North by-election has drawn several contestants, with Kisoi’s main rivals being Misi Mutua of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Harrison Wambua of Maendeleo Chap Chap.

The race is expected to test the political strength of leading parties in the Lower Eastern region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
