The Jubilee Party has called for a single opposition candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, even as it confirmed plans to field its own candidate for the seat.

In a statement dated April 22, 2026, the party said it is seeking to defend the constituency following the death of its MP David Kiaraho, while appealing to coalition partners to rally behind a unified ticket.

Jubilee described the by-election as a defining moment for opposition politics.

It is arguing that Kenyans are increasingly demanding cooperation among leaders seeking to offer an alternative government.

Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta said the party is pushing for a joint approach under the Jubilee banner.

The party pointed to previous by-elections, including Mbeere North and Emurua Dikirr, where opposition groups agreed on a single candidate.

Tension over control

Despite the unity appeal, Jubilee maintained that it will field a candidate in Ol Kalou and participate fully in all elective positions across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.

That position could trigger friction within opposition ranks, as smaller parties weigh whether to step aside or contest the seat.

The Ol Kalou by-election is shaping up as an early test of opposition cohesion.

Jubilee is positioning itself as the natural choice to retain the seat, but its call for unity under its banner places pressure on coalition partners to make a strategic decision.
